I’ve loved Canada since the beginning of time. In 2004, I realized the greatest show of my childhood, “Degrassi: The Next Generation” was made in the great country up north. I nearly fainted because it was the one thing that wasn’t made in China. The show was so impactful that I started telling people that I was born in Canada. Reasons why I acknowledge this holiday because of the gems the country has given us Americans such as: Nelly Furtado, Avril, Alanis, Jim Carrey, Norm Macdonald, and Tim Horton’s. Theses people have created so much joy in my life that I’m practically an honorary citizen. In 2012, when Alanis Morissette released her album”Havoc and Bright Lights,” I knew she became the Holy Grail. That was during my senior year in high school and that album got me through. June 2015, the hottest coffee shop opened in St. Louis, Tim Hortons. Tim’s isn’t just a coffee shop, it’s an experience. I gave my soul to that place the first semester of my junior year in college. I even purchased a Canadian flag and shirt! One of these days I will visit the motherland and be at peace but until then, I’ll be here, in America, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
