Tove Lo has always been cutting edge when she popped onto in 2014 with the song “Habits (Stay High).” With other singles and albums that came along after that, she continued to amaze me with her creativity and cutting edge style. Tove Lo was just making a name for herself in the music business stateside. It wasn’t until Summer 2019 that she really caught my eye with her lead single, “Glad He’s Gone.” The song was blunt yet groovy. I honestly don’t know where my love for Tove came from but she is a great song writer and all of her music comes from a place of experience that’s so raw and to the point.
Prior to the release of “Sunshine Kitty” I researched her other songs from previous albums and they took on an emotional roller coaster. Although singing about moments of euphoria laced with sexual encounters and drugs, these songs aren’t inappropriate in the way you would think. Tove Lo is always in control when depicting the image she wants to convey with her messages. She’s confident, in control of her body, and is the alpha. Her playful tunes yet melancholic under tones are the real kicker. As I mentioned before, every lyric is an experience, every heartbreak is a lesson taught and learned, and every lesson is a challenge. ‘Queen of the Clouds,’ ‘Lady Wood,’ ‘Blue Lips,’ and ‘Sunshine Kitty,’ takes you on a journey that will have you wondering “WTF is life” but it will also have you wanting to take more risks and be vulnerable.
Today is the release of the deluxe edition of ‘Sunshine Kitty’, Tove was nice enough to also give us new music! New single ‘Sadder Badder Cooler‘ is here now and it’s a bop.
